Delivering Complex Utility Solutions With Precision

The Lamar Quick Trip project in Lamar, Colorado, showcased Unbridled Contractors’ expertise in managing high-risk utility and pipeline installations. Our team completed a 40-foot-deep manhole excavation and tied into the existing sanitary sewer system while navigating demanding site conditions and safety requirements.

The scope included installation of multiple utility systems—sanitary sewer, stormwater, and large-diameter pipelines—along with rock excavation, groundwater control, and the construction of stormwater vaults, forebays, and headwalls engineered for optimal flow management and water quality improvement.

HIGHLIGHTS

40-foot-deep sanitary manhole excavation and connection

Multi-system utility installation (sanitary, storm, and water)

Rock excavation and groundwater control operations

Construction of stormwater vaults, forebays, and headwalls

Three welded live taps on 24-inch steel main at 17 feet deep

Completed on time despite complex subsurface and coordination challenges

Technical Execution and Coordination

The 40-foot manhole excavation required precision heavy-equipment operation, confined-space safety procedures, and the use of gas-protective lined manholes built for long-term durability. Additional deep sanitary installations reaching 30 feet and a complex bore under 6th Avenue off Highway 470 demanded constant coordination with CDOT, city officials, testing agencies, and the general contractor.

Overcoming Site Challenges

Unique grading conditions and variable-depth concrete and asphalt preparation required continuous field adjustments and collaboration. The water-system installation was particularly demanding, featuring a complex testing sequence and three welded live taps on a 24-inch steel main set 17 feet deep—executed safely around active fiber, communications, and electrical utilities.

Right-of-way work added further complexity, involving exploratory excavation to locate unmapped utilities, many of which were discovered dangerously shallow. Despite these conditions, our team successfully delivered all infrastructure components on schedule.
